Through Holy Orders, the mission Christ entrusted to his apostles continues in the Church today. Ordained ministers serve at three distinct degrees — bishop, priest, and deacon — each with its own ministry to God's people and its own rite of ordination.
The Three Degrees of Holy Orders
Who Can Be Ordained
Only baptized men whose suitability for ministry has been discerned by the Church may be ordained. In the Latin Church, candidates for the priesthood freely and publicly embrace celibacy for the sake of the Kingdom of God.
Discerning a Vocation
If you sense a possible call to the priesthood or diaconate, the first step is to speak with one of our parish priests. The Archdiocese of Nairobi's Vocations Office also walks with men discerning a call, offering personal accompaniment, formation, and ongoing support through seminary.
