The Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) is traced from the day of Pentecost, when the disciples of Jesus Christ received the power of the Holy Spirit and started speaking in different tongues (Acts of the Apostles 2:1–4). This is in relation with the words of Jesus in the Gospel of John (14:15–31), where in verse 26 He says, “The Advocate, the Holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name, He will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.” So it is very important, as disciples of Jesus, to always be led by the Holy Spirit.
“Charismatic” is derived from the word charisms, which means gifts of the Holy Spirit — e.g. teaching, praise and worship, intercession, prophecy, counselling, and many others.
